7/28/2010, Wed // Guilin (桂林), Yuangshuo (陽朔):
Below are pictures from my most recent trip to Guangxi (廣西). "桂林山水甲天下, 陽朔山水甲桂林" means that you will see the best scenery in Guilin (桂林), and within Guilin, Yuangshuo (陽朔) has the best views. This is very true.
Photography-wise, I failed in many ways in this trip. Many pictures were out of focus. Aperture and shutter speed were sometimes poorly chosen.. I do have an excuse though: because I went with a traveling agency, and I seldom took pictures in the spots they recommended. I had virtually two seconds to compose each shot... (I gotta love my image stabilizer on my 70-200mm f/4 for saving my life) And, just like last time to Zhangjiajie (張家界), the weather was too good to be ideal to obtain the best sky, color and contrast. One day, I will go by myself so that I can take pictures during sunrise and sunset, when the lighting situation is the best, and if I am lucky, I might see some nice mist and cloud...
There were two very impressive shows: 夢幻漓江馬戲歌舞表演 (a Chinese circus that is surprisingly artistic!) and 印象劉三姐歌舞表演 (directed by Zhang Yimou [張藝謀]; effectively used music to direct a huge group of people to achieve a stunning visual effect).
Yinzi Yan (銀子岩) was one of my favorites. It's a shame we didn't go to 龍脊梯田; otherwise I would have been the happiest person in the world.
